 2004 Editor/Creator of Journal, The Eagle Feather
In collaboration with the Assistant Director of Honors, the University Honors Program worked with staff of the Media Center in the UNT Libraries to create an undergraduate electronic journal for UNT students.  The journal is a fully refereed electronic journal with an editorial board consisting of UNT faculty, alumni, and students.  The first three annual issues of the journal can be viewed at

Appointed dean of the Honors College when it was officially established on August 1, 2005.The mission of the Honors College is to provide opportunities to enrich the entire undergraduate academic and intellectual experience for the talented and motivated students who choose to be members. The current membership of the Honors College is approximately 950 students.

The work of the dean includes every aspect of college governance, with a full range of leadership and administrative responsibilities. Those responsibilities include:

·         Establishing and realizing the mission and vision of the Honors College;

·         Representing the Honors College both within and beyond the UNT community;

·         Serving as an advocate for the Honors College;

·         Defining and overseeing the institutional effectiveness efforts of the Honors College and making certain that goals are in accordance with the University’s Strategic Plan and the directives of the Administration and Board of Regents;

·         Working with the Division of Advancement to develop a donor base and secure external funding for the Honors College;

·         Defining and creating a program of excellence in all aspects for students and the institution;

·         Managing and directing the overall operations of the Honors College, including recruiting; retention; curriculum; teaching; advising; programming; alumni relations; fundraising; and personnel;

·         Implementing administrative and academic policies of the institution;

·         Managing and overseeing the financial resources of the Honors College; and

·         Leading, guiding, supporting, and evaluating the work of staff members.

Since 2005, these responsibilities have also included membership on the design team for the new 200-bed Honors Hall, a residence hall just for members of the Honors College, which opened at capacity on August 18, 2007.

Director, Office of Academic Core Programs, College of Arts and Sciences Associate Professor, Department of Political Science

·         Named assistant director (1994), then director (1995) and charged with creating a university-wide honors program for the institution;

·         Position included serving as director of the Great Books Program and campus coordinator for National Student Exchange;

·         Position always half-time; teaching responsibilities in the Department of Political Science continued until August 2005.


2001-04: Southwest Regional Representative to National NSE Council

1995-2004: Campus Coordinator, National Student Exchange

Fall 2006: NSE returns to Honors College


NSE responsibilities included:

Managing all aspects of the program on campus;

Serving as liaison between UNT and the national office;

Recruiting students for exchange through NSE;

Assisting students in preparing for exchange;

Accepting students who wish to come to UNT on exchange;

Arranging classes, planning events, and advising students
